White Sagebrush, also known as Prairie Sage or Louisiana Sage, (Artemisia ludoviciana) is a lovely fragrant and resilient plant for Utah landscapes. Soft, woolly foliage forms a light, airy mound that reflects sunlight and adds subtle texture to gardens and naturalistic landscapes, while its delicate sprays of late-summer flowers attract pollinators and beneficial insects. Its understated silver tones make it an excellent companion for almost all other plants, including grasses and perennials, and bring a calming, elegant addition to plantings. Use White Sagebrush in dry garden beds and borders, new perennial plantings, prairie gardens, cottage gardens, and naturalistic settings. White Sagebrush spreads by both seed and rhizomes and can overtake small garden spaces, especially if given supplemental water or fertilizer. Flowers can be clipped to avoid seeding, but using soil barriers or containers are helpful for controlling rhizome spread.
