Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) ‘Purple Tears’ is a lovely selection of native Switchgrass found and introduced by famous plantsman and designer Piet Oudolf. Purple Tears is a lovely compact, upright grass that brings graceful movement and rich seasonal color to the landscape with airy clouds of delicate flower panicles. As summer progresses, the purple seed heads rise above the foliage like a soft haze, adding a beautiful and elegant look to the landscape. Its strong vertical habit and narrow form makes it an excellent choice for adding structure and movement to garden beds and borders, meadow and prairie plantings, new perennial landscapes, cottage gardens, and matrix plantings.
