Switchgrass 'Cloud Nine' (Panicum virgatum) is a majestic, warm-season native grass that commands attention with towering height, wonderful texture, and resounding seasonal color. 'Cloud Nine' is one of the tallest switchgrasses, reaching 7 to 8 feet with bloom! It features steely‑blue foliage that matures into rich gold in autumn. Billowy seed heads emerge in midsummer and persist well into winter, softening the silhouette of your garden with movement and interest and providing an important food source for birds. With it's loose vase shape, ‘Cloud Nine’ makes a beautiful background or specimen plant in garden beds or borders, new perennial or prairie plantings, or it can be used as a privacy screen. This grass requires little maintenance. Simply cut it back in early spring before new growth appears.
