Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), also known as Rose Milkweed, brings a soft elegance to the garden. Rounded clusters of rosy-pink flowers bloom in mid to late summer atop slender stems with narrow green leaves. The blooms add a gentle pop of color that pairs beautifully with grasses and other perennials, especially in meadow-style or naturalistic plantings. It is also an excellent choice for wet garden beds and borders and rain gardens. Swamp Milkweed is one of the few plants that does well in wet, heavy clay soil, making it a great plant for areas with poor drainage, next to ponds, etc. It does not spread aggressively through rhizomes like some other native milkweed varieties and is suitable for smaller garden spaces.
