Scarlet Globemallow (Sphaeralcea coccinea) is a low, spreading Globemallow variety that sports clusters of orange or red blossoms atop cute, lobed leaves. The stems and leaves are usually covered in short hairs, which give them a pale to silvery green appearance. Scarlet Globemallow will spread by rhizomes and self-seeding, but is not considered aggressive. It is extremely drought tolerant due to its long taproot and does not transplant well once established. We recommend this plant in dry beds and borders, rock gardens, Mediterannean gardens, and erosion control on dry slopes.
