Rocky Mountain Iris (Iris missouriensis) is a hardy and lovely perennial that boasts large, delicate blue flowers in the late spring and early summer. These blooms will be as long as 2-3 inches and feature dark-purple veining with a yellow signal. The long, narrow leaves grow in a dense clump and are avoided by deer. Rocky Mountain Iris gently spreads by rhizomes and grows best in moist, fertile loam. After flowering, it can handle soil that is a little dryer. It normally prefers full sun, but if placed in a hot, exposed site afternoon shade will be appreciated. Use this plant in beds and borders, rain gardens, or pollinator gardens. This plant is toxic if digested and toxic to dogs, cats, and horses.
