Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides) is one of the most beloved trees of the Intermountain West, celebrated for its brilliant golden fall color and distinctive leaves that shimmer and tremble in the slightest breeze. This fast-growing native tree creates a striking presence in the landscape with its smooth white bark, graceful form, and ability to form beautiful groves over time. Naturally found throughout Utah’s mountains and foothills, Quaking Aspen thrives in cooler, high elevation climates and soils with moderate moisture, making it an excellent choice for creating shade, seasonal interest, and wildlife habitat. Please note that planting this tree in hotter valley areas may decrease it's lifespan and increase the likelihood of disease and pest issues. It also naturally desires to form groves and sends up shoots and suckers readily, making it undesirable in small spaces. If a Quaking Aspen is desired in a valley area, we highly recommend the Prairie Gold variety, which features increased heat tolerance.
