Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is a graceful, warm-season native grass valued for its upright form, fine texture, and beautiful seasonal color. Its slender blue-green foliage forms neat, dense clumps that develop warm shades of copper, bronze, and red as summer progresses, with delicate silvery seedheads emerging in late summer and persisting well into winter. Unlike named cultivars, the straight species offers natural variation in height, color, and form, giving native plantings a more organic and natural appearance. Little Bluestem is an excellent choice for meadow and prairie plantings, matrix plantings, garden beds and borders, and slopes.
