Indian Ricegrass (Achnatherum hymenoides) is a native, clump-forming grass that features showy and wiry flower plumes. It is extremely drought tolerant and prefers sandy, poor soils. The seeds and edible and can by eaten raw, cooked like oatmeal, or ground into a naturally gluten free and high protein flower for making breads or thickening during cooing. Plant in xeric gardens, rock gardens, natural prairie plantings, or restoration projects.
