Indian Grass (Sorghastrum nutans) 'Thin Man' is a selected cultivar that was collected in a site in New Mexico and features a very narrow, upright growing habit for both the leaves and flower spikes and very blue foliage. Since this cultivar hails from the southwest, it is more tolerant of dry soils and drought conditions than other varieties collected from the midwest or further east. The showy golden-brown blooms will appear in late summer and last until winter, attracting many birds to your yard! Plant this beautiful native grass in garden beds and borders, along walkways or back borders in modern plantings, or in prairie style plantings. Avoid rich soils and fertilization, which may cause flopping or poor growth. After establishment, grow this grass on the dry side to bring out its blue color. Indian Grass is highly tolerant of urban pollution and suitable for city sites.
