Idaho Fescue (Festuca idahoensis) is an attractive native bunchgrass prized for its early season color and tight growth that restricts weeds. The seed for these Idaho Fescue plants favor blue foliage over the traditional green to blue-green. While not as deep or brilliant blue as the hybrid cultivar 'Siskiyou Blue' or non-native Festuca glauca varieties, these genetics will give some natural blue tones to native plantings. Idaho Fescue is prized for its hardiness to both drought and cold and its low maintenance. Use Idaho Fescue to provide structure and texture to xeric gardens, garden beds, or borders, to stabilize slopes, or as a groundcover. To maintain its color, water once every 2-3 weeks. The depth and amount of blue will vary and the appearance of the grass can change over time if it crosses with other fescues in the area.
