Blue Grama (Bouteloua gracilis) 'Blonde Ambition' is a darling ornamental grass that was found in the wild and cultivated by David Salman of High Country Gardens. This naturally occuring cultivar is quite a bit taller than the original species and is known for its delightful blooms and seedheads, which are held horizontally at the top of the stem. These blooms and following seedheads are very strong and weather resistant, even remaining upright all winter long! This warm-season grass has a blue-green hue for most of the year and usually turns golden in the fall, although it may sometimes develop hues of red and orange. Plant in garden beds and borders of all styles, naturalized prairie plantings, containers, or even cut flower beds to add interest and texture to cut flower arrangments. 'Blonde Ambition' is tolerant of urban pollution and suitable for city environments.
