Panchito Manzanita (Arctostaphylos × coloradoensis ‘Panchito’) is a low-growing evergreen shrub prized for its attractive year-round foliage, smooth reddish-brown bark, and graceful spreading form. This plant is a selection of the naturally occurring hybrid Mock Bearberry Manzanita, which is a cross between Arctostaphylos uva-ursi and patula that was found growing on the Uncompahgre Plateau in southwestern Colorado. Small, leathery green leaves create a dense, refined texture, while delicate pink to white urn-shaped flowers appear in spring, adding a subtle touch of color before developing into small red berries. Its naturally spreading habit makes it especially useful for slopes, rock gardens, borders, and water-wise landscapes, where its evergreen presence provide lasting interest. This shrub will do best with a bit of shade in the hottest part of the afternoon.
